  • Sir Henry Jones adopted the brand name IXL® which was a play on ‘I excel’ in 1898.
  • Henry Jones was born in 1862 and began work when he was 12 in Peacock’s jam factory, pasting labels on tins for 10 hours a day, six days a week. From humble beninnings, Hentry Jones’ entrepreneurial talents saw him achieve great success in business ventures that included jam, fruit, timber, mining and shipping.
  • Jones was a shrewed investor in promising Tasmanian undertakings however his greatest profits didn’t come from jam, but from a tin-dredging business in Thailand called the IXL prospecting Co.
  • Henry Jones was an entrepenuer and during the course of the growth of his business moved beyond Tasmania to Victoria to purchase the ‘OK’ Jam Co in 1895, located at the iconic ‘Jam Factory’ in Prahran, Melbourne. These premises were used to manufacture ‘IXL®’ jams until 1970 when the building was shutdown, undertaking a $20 million renovation and opening in 1979 as a shopping centre catering to modern fashions.
