Share-A-Can

SPC Ardmona has hosted Operation Share-A-Can, now in its ninth year, to provide food for Victoria's needy. ‘Share a Can’ is the largest food relief operation of its kind in Australia, and possibly the world.
About 450 SPC Ardmona employees volunteer their time, each year, to produce more than 400,000 cans, valued at in excess of $750,000. Many work all night on shift work, then turn around, put on a Share-A-Can t-shirt and volunteer their time for this worthy cause. Share-A-Can also involves related industries which contribute their unique goods and services.

25 semi-trailers are used to transport the cans to the recipient agencies. Cans are then distributed to more than 300 welfare organisations throughout Victoria and Australia.

Foodbank Victoria has described the food products provided by Operation Share-A-Can as crucial, saying "there has not been a project like it in Australia for supporting charity, and it could not have come at a better time. There are almost 50,000 homeless people in Victoria and the number of people in poverty has increased significantly in the last 20 years".

In addition, all profits from SPC Ardmona Factory Sales on the day are donated to charity.

National Schools Packaging Design Challenge

SPC Ardmona & VIP Packaging are this year's co-sponsors of the Packaging Council of Australia's National Schools Packaging Design Challenge for secondary school students.
The challenge is offered to every secondary school in Australia. Students work in teams of two to design innovative packaging solutions, considering a variety of technical, creative and environmental issues relating to the packaging supply chain. During May and June, a winning team is to be selected from each state and territory to compete for the national award, to be presented at a dinner held in Melbourne in August.

The winning design will not only be environmentally friendly, but also aesthetically appealing and functional.
